Winning Mentality

Quite simply, great leaders are winners. They demonstrate characteristics of winning and sportsmanship, and they’re never bad losers (though you can expect them to be unhappy about it). A key attribute that goes hand in hand with passion and achieving goals is a winning attitude that motivates you every day. Far beyond just saying it or vaguely subscribing to the idea, it’s the willingness to develop a winning plan and work hard as a team to make it succeed. Surround yourself with these people! Consistent winners are also fierce competitors! As you compete (internally or externally) remember that a commitment to integrity and fair competition is an important part of the equation—it’s the High Road way.

Great leaders also develop “leading up” skills. It’s your responsibility to develop your boss as a strong supporter and advocate. This person needs to trust you, agree with the way you approach your job and be pleased with the results you deliver. This doesn’t happen immediately, so you’ll need to earn it. Here are some winning moves that help accelerate the process:
